GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION
God created his children to have eternal life, but He provided only one means for us to have that eternal life-to receive the salvation found in the shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The scriptures tell us very clearly that Jesus is the one and only means by which we can receive eternal life. Good works, baptism, confirmation and going to church don’t count for a thing in God’s eyes, if you have not received His Son-eternal life is a gift, it is not earned. Once we are saved however, then we will want to do good works, we will want to praise God in church, but these things alone will not bring eternal life.
There are actually two means by which we may gain Heaven, but since one is absolutely impossible for us to attain (keeping the law perfectly); in reality there is only one way (Grace). We can choose to be judged under the Law or under the Gospel, that is, the mercy of God. Even one transgression (sin) against the law makes us imperfect for God’s kingdom; for He will allow absolutely no sin in His almighty and holy presence. Thusly, we can only find salvation through Gods loving mercy; a mercy so great that he sent His Only Begotten Son to die for us; to be the perfect sacrifice that would satisfy the payment of debt for sin.
In Old Testament times the Jewish people offered animal sacrifices in payment for the sin debt to temporarily satisfy God, but these sacrifices were repeated regularly as they were never able to fully satisfy that debt-they were imperfect. The once and forever perfect sacrifice for the payment of sin’s debt came when God let his perfect, sinless Son be the sacrificial lamb. Finally, a perfect sacrifice that would remove all sin, for all time, for those who were willing to be washed clean by the shed blood of His Son. This loving act of mercy from God is a free gift to all who will receive it. All it takes for you to have the assurance of eternal life, is to say yes to the gift of salvation which God is offering you this very minute.
You do not have to “clean up your life” in order to receive salvation-God wants you to have this gift right now, just as you are. Do not believe the lies of Satan when he whispers in your ear that you are just too bad to receive this salvation, that God couldn’t possibly want you to be saved. Satan is the father of all lies, and for only a short time yet he has the power to deceive the children of God; Satan is the defeated enemy. Jesus came to save the sinners, and that means all sinners, and that means everyone, for we are all sinners. Jesus died for YOU.
If you want to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and have eternal life right this minute, please read the following. Pray for God’s wisdom and understanding, and then pray it again from your heart, speaking the sinners prayer aloud. (# 6 below).
STEPS TO RECEIVING CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR
1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way… (Isaiah 53:6) 2. Know that you are under penalty of death. The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekial 18:4) The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23a) 3. Jesus has a full pardon for you-accept it. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities. (Psalm 103: 3) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) Wherefore He is able to save them to the uttermost that came unto God by Him (Jesus) (Hebrews 7:25) The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ( Romans 6:23b). 4. Repent of your sins. Tell God that you are sorry. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) 5. Do it now! Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2) Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20) Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. (James 4:14) 6. Pray this prayer: Heavenly Father; I know that I am a sinner and I ask for your mercy. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins. I repent of my sins and ask Your forgiveness. I am willing to turn from my sins and my old way of life and to live for You. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my heart as my personal savior. I will follow and obey Christ, by Your grace, making Him the Lord of my life, from this day forward. Amen. 7. Believe! If you have prayed this prayer in sincerity and truly believe, then you are now a child of God. How can you be sure? The Bible says so!!! I (Jesus) am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he was dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. (John 11:25-26) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name (Jesus). (John 1:12) WELCOME TO GOD’S FAMILY! (Adapted from Chaplain Ray Hoekstra’s book; Will You Die for Me.)
Congratulations! If you have prayed this prayer in sincerity, you have just been born again. The old sinful person is dead, born again as a new child in God. You have been washed perfectly clean in the shed blood of Jesus, perfectly forgiven; an eternal child of God. Just like a newborn babe needs nourishment in order to grow, so does the newborn Christian. The Word of God tells us that we are nourished and grow as a Christian by feeding on the pure milk of the Gospel (1st Peter 2:2) By reading the Word of God you will grow in faith, you will receive the strength you need to live a Christian life.
It is suggested that you start your journey into God’s Word not at the beginning in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, beginning with the Book of Matthew. The New Testament begins telling the story of Christ’s birth and His life, leading up to His death on the cross. It tells the story of how Jesus first came to Earth as a sacrificial lamb, and how he will return again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Perhaps the most important information from the Bible that God wants you to know about salvation is found in the Book of Romans in the New Testament. Pieced together from verses found therein, it reads from beginning to end as a step-by-step path to salvation. It is called the Roman Road to Salvation, and by following this road in faith; you will find that it leads to eternal life. It is essentially the same information from the above Steps to Receiving Christ as Your Savior, presented in a more condensed form.
ROMAN ROAD TO SALVATION
Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;…” Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: While we were still Sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 10:9,10 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:13 for, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
